No obstante, en 1995, con la recomposición del texto (y su digitalización) con motivo de la publicación de la 5th Edition, se introdujo un cambio en este pasaje, que pasó a leerse:They had thought of coming to the secret door in the Lonely Mountain, perhaps that very next first moon of Autumn— “and perhaps it will be Durin’s Day” they had said.
Con la enmienda ‘first moon’ a ‘last moon’. Como apunta al margen Douglas A. Anderson en la Revised and Expanded Edition de The Annotated Hobbit (2002):They had thought of coming to the secret door in the Lonely Mountain, perhaps that very next last moon of Autumn— “and perhaps it will be Durin’s Day” they had said.
Dicho cambio, adoptado por las ediciones inglesas posteriores a 1995, nunca se ha visto reflejado en el texto español tras esa fecha, con una única excepción: la edición revisada y ampliada de El Hobbit Anotado (2006, h-M-10). Que Anderson incluyera una nota al margen específica para el cambio textual del inglés debió poner en aviso al editor español por aquel entonces y se lee correctamente “esa misma última luna de otoño”. Sin embargo, la enmienda de esta edición no se trasladó a posteriores ediciones españolas, ni siquiera a la última revisada del pasado julio, y en cuya revisión se empleó presuntamente una versión reciente del texto original (al menos posterior a 1995). La versión correcta actual original volvió a pasar una vez más inadvertida y seguimos encontrando “esa misma primera luna de otoño” según el primer y desfasado texto inglés.This change has no authorial authority and is the correction of what seems to be an error that Tolkien never caught. On page 96, Durin’s Day is defined as the first day of the dwarves’ New Year, and more specifically as “the first day of the last moon of Autumn on the threshold of Winter . . . when the last moon of Autumn and the sun are in the sky together.” On page 263, with the dwarves on the back doorstep to the Lonely Mountain, Thorin remarks: “Tomorrow begins the last week of autumn.” On the following evening, with a thin new moon above the rim of the earth, the light of the setting sun discloses the keyhole, the combination of which occurs only on Durin’s Day. Thus the above change seems to be correct, even if Tolkien himself never noticed the discrepancy. (pp. 102-103)
